Karim Adeyemi

Karim Adeyemi begins a new chapter of his career at FC Barcelona after four seasons with Borussia Dortmund and a rise that has already taken him from Austrian football to the UEFA Champions League final.

FC Barcelona officially announced the German forward on 23 July 2026, signing him from Borussia Dortmund on a contract running until 30 June 2031. Hansi Flick, who handed Adeyemi his senior Germany debut in 2021, is now reunited with him at club level.

Adeyemi arrives with one of the most explosive attacking profiles in European football. He can operate on either wing or through the center and combines exceptional acceleration with a powerful left foot.

Most importantly, his Borussia Dortmund record is now fully verified.

He left BVB with:

146 official appearances
36 goals
25 assists

across four seasons.

Important Statistics Method

To avoid mixing league statistics with all-competition totals, the Borussia Dortmund season table in this profile is calculated from the DFB’s official competition-by-competition records.

The DFB records Adeyemi at Dortmund with the following:

• 98 Bundesliga appearances — 23 goals

• 37 Champions League appearances — 12 goals

• 6 DFB-Pokal appearances — 1 goal

• 5 FIFA Club World Cup appearances — 0 goals

That produces exactly the following:

146 appearances and 36 goals.

For the season table, the summer 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is grouped with the 2024/25 club season, while the DFB database itself lists those five matches separately under calendar year 2025.

Early Life in Munich

Adeyemi was born in Munich on 18 January 2002.

His early football development included time with:

• TSV Forstenried

• Bayern Munich

• SpVgg Unterhaching

before he eventually moved to Austria.

Even as a youth player, Adeyemi’s defining qualities were obvious.

He possessed extraordinary acceleration and the ability to attack defenders directly.

Those traits eventually attracted Red Bull Salzburg.

Move to Salzburg

Adeyemi entered the Red Bull football structure as a teenager and initially gained senior experience with FC Liefering, Salzburg’s development club.

He then progressed into the Red Bull Salzburg first team.

His senior Salzburg debut came in European competition in February 2020.

The Austrian club provided the ideal environment for a forward whose game was built around pace, pressing, and vertical attacking.

Breakthrough at Red Bull Salzburg

Adeyemi’s major breakthrough arrived during 2021/22.

He scored:

19 goals in 29 Austrian Bundesliga appearances

and finished as the league’s top scorer.

That campaign established him as one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.

He also played an important role as Salzburg became the first Austrian club to reach the UEFA Champions League knockout stage.

Champions League With Salzburg

Adeyemi demonstrated his qualities at the Champions League level before he ever moved to Germany.

During Salzburg’s 2021/22 group campaign, he scored against the following:

• Sevilla

• Lille

• Wolfsburg

and finished the group stage as joint top scorer for his club.

His ability to attack space behind defensive lines made Salzburg particularly dangerous in transition.

Salzburg Trophies

Adeyemi won major domestic honors during his time in Austria.

FC Barcelona’s current profile credits him with:

Austrian Bundesliga — 3

• 2019/20

• 2020/21

• 2021/22

Austrian Cup — 3

• 2019/20

• 2020/21

• 2021/22

He therefore completed three consecutive domestic doubles before leaving Austria.

2021/22 Austrian Bundesliga Top Scorer

His final Salzburg season produced the biggest individual award of his Austrian career.

Adeyemi’s 19 league goals made him the Austrian Bundesliga’s leading scorer.

FC Barcelona also notes that he was selected in the league’s Team of the Season.

Borussia Dortmund moved for him that summer.

Borussia Dortmund Sign Adeyemi

Adeyemi returned to Germany in the summer of 2022, signing for Borussia Dortmund.

He joined a club with a strong record of developing young attacking players and was given the No. 27 shirt.

His Dortmund career would last four seasons.

2022/23: First Borussia Dortmund Season

Adeyemi’s first BVB season produced:

across all competitions.

Spectacular Goal Against Chelsea

One of the defining moments of his first Dortmund season came in the Champions League Round of 16 against Chelsea.

Adeyemi collected possession during a rapid counterattack, accelerated from inside Dortmund’s half, beat Enzo Fernández, and then rounded goalkeeper Kepa before finishing.

Dortmund won the first leg 1-0.

UEFA later selected the strike among the best Champions League goals of the season.

Bundesliga Rookie of the Season

Adeyemi’s first season in Germany earned major individual recognition.

He was officially named

2022/23 Bundesliga Rookie of the Season.

He became only the second Borussia Dortmund player after Ousmane Dembélé to win the award at that time.

2023/24: Champions League Final Season

Adeyemi’s second Borussia Dortmund campaign produced the following:

5 goals

Champions League Group Stage Goals

Adeyemi scored twice during Dortmund’s difficult Champions League group.

His goals came against:

• AC Milan

• Paris Saint-Germain

Dortmund surprisingly finished first in a group containing PSG, Milan, and Newcastle.

Dortmund Reach the Champions League Final

BVB was then eliminated:

• PSV Eindhoven

• Atlético Madrid

• Paris Saint-Germain

to reach the 2024 UEFA Champions League final.

Adeyemi featured throughout the knockout campaign.

Dortmund faced Real Madrid at Wembley.

Adeyemi created major problems with his speed during the opening half and had two significant opportunities, but Real Madrid eventually won 2-0 through Dani Carvajal and Vinícius Júnior.

It remains the closest Adeyemi has come to winning the Champions League.

The Fastest Player in the Champions League Group Stage

Adeyemi’s pace was statistically exceptional.

UEFA recorded him at:

36.3 km/h

during the 2023/24 Champions League group stage—the fastest speed recorded by any player during that phase of the competition.

Speed has remained one of the defining characteristics of his career.

2024/25: Career-Best Dortmund Goal Output

The 2024/25 season produced Adeyemi’s best scoring return during his Dortmund career.

He finished with:

41 official appearances
12 goals

when the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is included with the club season.

Hat-Trick Against Celtic

Adeyemi produced one of the greatest individual matches of his Dortmund career against Celtic on 1 October 2024.

He scored a first-half hat-trick and provided an assist as Dortmund won:

Borussia Dortmund 7-1 Celtic.

His goals arrived in the

• 11th minute

• 29th minute

• 42nd minute

It was a spectacular display of speed, movement, and finishing.

Champions League Scoring Record

That Celtic hat-trick also produced an important German record.

At 22 years and 257 days, Adeyemi became the first German player to reach at least ten Champions League goals before his 23rd birthday.

He finished the 2024/25 Champions League with:

10 appearances
5 goals.

Facing Barcelona

Dortmund’s Champions League journey ended against FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

Barcelona won the first leg 4-0 before Dortmund won the second leg 3-1. Barça progressed on aggregate.

One year later, Adeyemi would become a Barcelona player.

2024 Hamstring Injury

Adeyemi’s outstanding start to 2024/25 was interrupted after the Celtic match.

He suffered a muscular injury and missed a significant run of matches during the autumn.

Borussia Dortmund’s season documentation notes that he had to leave the Celtic match shortly after half-time despite scoring three goals.

He eventually returned later in the campaign and still finished with a career-best 12 goals for Dortmund across all competitions.

2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Adeyemi also featured in all five Borussia Dortmund matches at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup during the summer of 2025.

The DFB records:

5 appearances
0 goals

for him in the competition.

Those five matches are included in this profile’s 2024/25 club-season total.

2025/26: Final Borussia Dortmund Season

Adeyemi’s final campaign in black and yellow produced another double-digit scoring return.

He finished with:

39 official appearances
10 goals

2025/26 Bundesliga

Adeyemi’s final Bundesliga campaign for Dortmund produced:

28 appearances
7 goals.

He also contributed important assists and remained one of Dortmund’s major transition threats.

His final BVB league appearance came during the club’s 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen on 16 May 2026, where he came off the bench and assisted Yan Couto for the second goal.

2025/26 Champions League

Adeyemi played:

9 matches
3 goals

in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.

That took his Dortmund Champions League record to

37 appearances
12 goals.

Including his earlier Salzburg appearances, Adeyemi already had extensive Champions League experience before joining Barcelona.

Leaving Borussia Dortmund

Adeyemi’s Dortmund contract had been due to expire in 2027.

During summer 2026, he informed Dortmund officials that he wanted to leave.

When FC Barcelona became his destination, Dortmund agreed to the transfer.

Sporting director Lars Ricken described Adeyemi as an important player during his four-year spell and highlighted his role in the club’s 2024 Champions League final run.

FC Barcelona Sign Karim Adeyemi

On 23 July 2026, Barcelona officially announced an agreement with Borussia Dortmund.

Adeyemi signed until:

30 June 2031.

Neither Barcelona nor Dortmund publicly disclosed the transfer fee in their official announcements.

For a publish-ready profile, the safest wording is, therefore,

Official transfer fee: Undisclosed.

Hansi Flick Connection

The Barcelona move reunites Adeyemi with Hansi Flick.

Flick was Germany's coach when Adeyemi made his senior international debut.

At his Barça presentation, Adeyemi described Flick as a major reason behind his decision to join the club.

He also said that he was prepared to play wherever Flick needed him across the front line.

First Training Session With Barça

Adeyemi trained with Barcelona for the first time on 24 July 2026 at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

He then traveled with the squad to England for preseason preparations at St. George’s Park.

Unofficial Barcelona Debut

Adeyemi made his first appearance in a Barcelona shirt against Birmingham City on 31 July 2026.

The match finished 2-2 before Birmingham won the subsequent penalty shootout.

Adeyemi started the friendly and was one of several players making an unofficial Barça first-team debut.

Because it was a preseason friendly, the match does not count toward his official competitive Barcelona career statistics.

Barcelona Preseason

Adeyemi continued receiving minutes during Barcelona’s preseason schedule.

He featured alongside both senior players and academy prospects as Flick prepared the squad for the new LaLiga campaign.

Barcelona’s official report against Nottingham Forest specifically noted his combination play with Fermín López on the right flank.

Official Barcelona Competitive Stats

As of 22 August 2026, Barcelona have not yet played their opening league fixture of the season.

Therefore, Adeyemi’s competitive Barça record currently stands at:

Statistic Total Official appearances 0 Goals 0 Assists 0

Barcelona’s league campaign is due to begin against Elche on 23 August 2026.

Germany Youth Career

Adeyemi represented Germany at several youth levels.

His biggest youth international success came at the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Germany won the tournament, with Adeyemi part of the championship-winning squad.

The DFB officially lists him as a

2021 U21 European champion.

Senior Germany Debut

Adeyemi made his senior Germany debut on 5 September 2021.

The coach was Hansi Flick.

Germany faced Armenia in World Cup qualifying.

Adeyemi entered the match and scored his first senior international goal as Germany won 6-0.

It remains his only senior international goal to date.

FIFA World Cup 2022

Adeyemi was selected in Germany’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

However, Germany was eliminated during the group stage.

The tournament nevertheless gave Adeyemi experience inside a senior World Cup squad at only 20 years old.

Return to Germany, Squad

After a period away from the senior team, Adeyemi returned to Germany’s setup during the 2025 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The DFB records him as having:

11 senior Germany appearances
1 goal.

His most recent senior appearance came on 13 October 2025.

2026 FIFA World Cup Status

Adeyemi was involved during Germany’s qualifying campaign, but he was not selected in the final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

FC Barcelona explicitly confirmed this when announcing his signing.

Therefore:

The 2026 FIFA World Cup should not be included in Adeyemi’s tournament appearances or honors.

Germany Career Statistics

As of 22 August 2026:

Senior Germany caps: 11
Goals: 1
Senior debut: 5 September 2021
First goal: vs Armenia, 5 September 2021

The DFB’s official database confirms the 11-cap, one-goal record.

Playing Style

Karim Adeyemi is one of the fastest forwards in elite European football.

His game is primarily based around:

• Acceleration

• Vertical running

• Direct dribbling

• Attacking space

• Left-footed finishing

• Counterattacking

• High pressing

Barcelona describes him as a versatile attacker capable of playing on either wing or centrally as a center-forward.

Explosive Pace

Pace is Adeyemi’s defining physical attribute.

Barcelona notes that he is capable of reaching speeds above 36 km/h, while UEFA officially recorded him at 36.3 km/h during the 2023/24 Champions League.

He is especially dangerous once he has open grass ahead.

Acceleration

Adeyemi does not require a long distance to reach maximum speed.

His first few steps are explosive.

This allows him to move beyond defenders before they can turn and recover.

It is one reason he is particularly dangerous against high defensive lines.

Left Wing

Adeyemi can start from the left and attack centrally onto his stronger left foot or move around the striker.

His speed also allows him to make runs outside the opposing full-back.

Right Wing

He is equally capable of beginning on the right.

From there, his left foot becomes especially dangerous when he moves inside toward shooting positions.

Barcelona’s preseason use of Adeyemi has already demonstrated Flick’s willingness to use him on more than one side.

Centre-Forward

Adeyemi can also operate centrally.

He is not a traditional target striker.

Instead, his strength as a center forward comes from running behind center-backs.

If defenders step forward to compress the pitch, Adeyemi can immediately threaten the space behind them.

Counterattacking

Few situations suit Adeyemi better than a transition.

His famous Champions League goal against Chelsea is the clearest example.

He began the attack deep inside Dortmund’s half and turned a defensive situation into a goal within seconds.

Dribbling

Adeyemi uses speed as part of his dribbling.

Rather than always attempting elaborate skill moves, he frequently pushes the ball beyond the defender and accelerates after it.

This makes him particularly dangerous when isolated one-on-one.

Finishing

Adeyemi’s powerful left foot gives him a genuine scoring threat from different positions.

He can finish:

• Across the goalkeeper

• At the near post

• From central positions

• After diagonal runs

• During counterattacks

His 12-goal 2024/25 and 10-goal 2025/26 Dortmund seasons demonstrated improving scoring consistency.

Pressing

Adeyemi also has experience inside high-intensity pressing systems.

His speed enables him to close down defenders and goalkeepers rapidly.

That is particularly relevant under Hansi Flick, whose Barcelona side expect the front line to contribute aggressively without possession.

Karim Adeyemi’s Main Strengths

• Elite acceleration

• Top-end speed

• Direct attacking

• Runs behind defenders

• Left-footed finishing

• Counterattacking

• One-on-one dribbling

• Transition threat

• Ability to play both wings

• Ability to play center forward

• Champions League experience

• High pressing

• Movement without the ball

• Ability to stretch defensive lines

• Shooting power

• Big-game experience

Areas for Development

At 24, Adeyemi is still young enough to improve several aspects of his game.

The biggest areas include:

• Consistency over complete seasons

• Decision-making in crowded areas

• Final-ball selection

• Maintaining fitness

• Performing against deep defensive blocks

• Converting more chances when little transition space is available

These points become particularly important at Barcelona because many LaLiga opponents defend much deeper than the teams Adeyemi regularly faced in Germany.

Injury Record

Adeyemi has experienced several muscular issues during his career.

One of his most significant Dortmund injuries came in February 2023, when he suffered a torn muscle fiber against Hertha Berlin and was ruled out for approximately three weeks.

He also suffered a muscular problem at the end of the 2022/23 campaign that affected the beginning of the following preseason.

The most notable later setback came after his Celtic hat-trick in October 2024, when another muscular injury kept him out for several weeks.

During April 2026, Dortmund also listed him as unavailable with muscular problems.

Maintaining physical continuity will therefore be important at Barcelona.

Why Adeyemi Fits Hansi Flick’s Barcelona

Adeyemi provides a profile Barcelona do not have in exactly the same form elsewhere in the squad.

Lamine Yamal is an elite creator.

Raphinha offers goals, pressing, and movement.

Anthony Gordon provides direct running and intensity.

Adeyemi adds truly exceptional straight-line speed and a powerful left foot.

That gives Flick another player capable of attacking the space behind defensive lines.

Adeyemi and Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal frequently attracts multiple defenders toward Barcelona’s right side.

If the opposition defensive line shifts too aggressively toward Lamine, Adeyemi can potentially attack the space that opens elsewhere.

Quick switches of play could therefore become especially dangerous.

Adeyemi and Pedri

Pedri’s passing vision can also complement Adeyemi’s movement.

Adeyemi wants to run beyond the defense.

Pedri has the ability to recognize those runs early.

That combination could create a direct attacking option Barcelona have sometimes lacked against aggressive opposition defensive lines.

Competition in Barcelona’s Attack

Adeyemi is joining an extremely competitive forward group.

Barcelona currently lists attackers including

• Lamine Yamal

• Raphinha

• Anthony Gordon

• Roony Bardghji

• Karim Adeyemi

• Jesse Bisiwu

on the first-team squad page.

Therefore, joining Barcelona does not automatically guarantee Adeyemi a starting place.

His ability to contribute in several attacking roles should help.

Contract and Barcelona Future

Adeyemi’s contract runs until 30 June 2031.

That is a significant long-term commitment from Barcelona.

At only 24, the club is signing a player who already has:

• More than 140 Dortmund appearances

• Nearly 50 Champions League appearances, including Salzburg

• A Champions League final

• Senior World Cup experience

• Multiple domestic trophies

• Elite physical qualities

while still possessing room for further development.

Current Status for 2026/27

As of 22 August 2026, Karim Adeyemi is:

• 24 years old

• A current FC Barcelona first-team forward

• Under contract until 2031

• Left-footed

• Able to play on either wing or centrally

• Yet to make his official competitive Barcelona debut

• Coming off 39 appearances and 10 goals in 2025/26

• On 146 Borussia Dortmund appearances

• On 36 Borussia Dortmund goals

• Credited with 25 Dortmund assists

• A former Austrian Bundesliga top scorer

• A Bundesliga Rookie of the Season winner

• A Champions League finalist

• An U21 European champion

• On 11 senior Germany caps

• One senior German goal

What Comes Next for Karim Adeyemi?

The immediate objective is earning a significant role in Hansi Flick’s attack.

Adeyemi has already proven that he can produce against elite opposition.

He has scored in the Champions League against Chelsea, Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Celtic.

The next challenge is adapting that game to Barcelona.

In Germany, Adeyemi frequently had space to run into.

At Barça, he will often face opponents defending deep around their own penalty area.

His development in tight spaces could therefore determine how successful his first season becomes.

Champions League Ambition

Adeyemi has already played in a Champions League final.

He knows what it feels like to reach the final stage of Europe’s biggest club competition.

But he has never won it.

Doing so at Barcelona would represent the biggest club achievement of his career.

Final Thoughts

Karim Adeyemi arrives at FC Barcelona with a combination of experience and potential.

He is only 24, yet he has already

won six domestic trophies in Austria, became a league top scorer, represented Germany at a World Cup, played more than 140 matches for Borussia Dortmund, and started in a Champions League final.

Those totals exactly match Borussia Dortmund’s final official career figures.

Barcelona have now signed him until 2031.

Hansi Flick already knows him.

And Adeyemi arrives with one of the most dangerous physical weapons in European football:

elite speed.

The challenge now is turning that pace into consistent goals, assists, and trophies at FC Barcelona.
